This is exactly why on Friday, August 5, under picturesque canvas of the restaurant Pick&Roll, Film Music Concert will take place at 8 p.m. With the pieces from the most wonderful Hollywood productions set to be performed live, connoisseurs of the genre are sure in for a treat. The highest quality of artistic performance will be provided by Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot led by Maestro Wojciech Rajski,
Jan A,P. Kaczmarek, polish composer, author of music to more than 50 feature films, documentaries and theatre plays is set to be our special guest. Even though he graduated in law, he decided to give up promising future in diplomacy so that he could devote himself fully to music. His cooperation with Jerzy Grotowski and his avant-garde “Laboratorium” theater was the turning point of his career. Since 1989, he has been living and working in Los Angeles.
The composer has obtained a number of prestigious awards. The highly coveted Academy Award, most commonly known as Oscar, went to him in 2005 for “Finding Neverland” (dir. Mark Forster). The pieces he composed for the Hollywood productions earned him BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations, while American National Board of Review acknowledged his work by granting him the best composer title.
PGNiG Transatlantyk Festival (also known as the International Film and Music Festival) is organized annually on Kaczmarek’s initiative, who serves as its director. He records for renowned labels, like Sony Classical, Decca and Varèse Sarabande, to name just a few. In 2006, he received the Gloria Artis Medal for Services to Art from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, and in 2015 the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
