Exceptional Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak performed in perhaps every opera house representing the world of high-brow music. The Metropolitan Opera House New York, the Royal Opera House, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Vienesse Theater an der Wien as well as Wiener Staatsoper are only some of the places where our prima donna got to display her tremendous talent.

The Forest Opera will soon be incorporated into this prestigious selection, as on August 3, 2016 at 8 p.m. Aleksandra Kurzak will perform as part of the Opening Concert of the sixth edition of the International Music Festival Energa Sopot Classic.

The most beautiful arias from operas by Donizetti, Puccini and Bizet are sure to become an opportunity for evening delight. Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot led by Maestro Wojciech Rajski will complement the performance of the great diva.

Aleksandra Kurzak was born on August 7, 1977 in Brzeg Dolny. She is daughter of Jolanta Żmurko, prima donna of Opera Wroclawska, and Ryszard Kurzak, a French horn player. Her gift for music could be traced as far back as into her earliest years. She accompanied her mother during her performances and continued to study piano and violin. She graduated with distinction from the Vocal Department of the Musical Academy in Wrocław and Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. Although she was still a student, she debuted on the scene of Opera Wrocławska, playing the role of Susanna in “The Marriage of Figaro” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, by the side of her mother, who played the Countess. She honed her vocal and acting technique in Internationales Opern Studio at the Hamburg State Opera. In 2004, as 27-year old woman, she debuted as Olimpia in “The Tales of Hoffmann” at the Metropolitan Opera House.

The soloist has signed the exclusive contract with Decca Classics, legendary, London-based classical music label, as the first Polish singer. She is the winner of the most prestigious national and international competitions. She won the first prize and special awards at the 3rd International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition in Warsaw, where her performance was deemed the year’s best debut. In 1999 she gained the special award for the young talent during The Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition, while only in 2000 she achieved three: the Mozart Medal and special award for young talent at Francisco Viñas International Singing Contest, as well as the third prize at International Vocal Competition in Guangzhou (China). Eventually, she received the annual award of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2010). She was  also a beneficiary of renowned scholarship programmes. For her contributions to Polish culture, she was rewarded with the Gold Cross of Achievement from the President of the Republic of Poland.

Despite her young age, Aleksandra Kurzak has remarkably rich and colorful oeuvre to be proud of. She played the roles of the Queen of the Night in “Magic Flute”, Donna Anna in “Don Giovanni” by W. A. Mozart, Gilda in “Rigoletto” by Giuseppe Verdi, Hanna in “The Haunted Manor” by S. Moniuszko, Rosina in “The Barber of Seville” by Gioachino Rossini and many more.
